When it comes to awareness, words are not enough.
Beyond Words is a non-profit organization supporting educational films and media on social, environmental and human rights issues.
We believe that knowledge is power, and education is one of the most effective ways to raise awareness and foster critical thinking on complex stories.
We work with local schools, universities, researchers, storytellers, journalists and experts to move youth to take a stand.
How we work
Film Analysis
We develop and/or select films that are a potential fit for a school program. We rely on education professionals to evaluate the suitability based on age, relevance and impact.
Concept Ideation
We develop workshops and events concepts to be implemented in schools. We research local experts and institutions that may support our initiatives.
Fundraising
We partner with local cultural, social or educational organizations to raise awareness on our cause, and raise funds to implement the project in schools.
Project implementation
We bring the project to local schools. Workshops and discussions are conducted with the support of experts to help students develop their critical thinking skills.

How We Started
After working in technology, culture and education for 15 years between Italy, Canada and Germany, and as an activist for refugees’ and ethnic minorities’ rights, moving into social films was but a natural evolution of my storytelling work. I aspire to create a legacy for my two children, Saverio and Niccolò, and future generations on the importance of being human.
Viviana Laperchia, Founder and Managing Director

Why It Matters
I am a German Media Creative of Italian descent, and I love the art of documentary storytelling. I see Beyond Words Documentaries as a meaningful platform to give social issues and communities a voice (and an audience!), that unfortunately often falls short.
